Are 3D aquarium backgrounds worth the money? We think so. They're cool, and they give your fish a more realistic living environment. Plus, they're easy to install inside an aquarium.

That said, there are a few tips to keep in mind when considering a 3D background.

Always choose non-toxic material.

Give the 3D background the "sniff test." Smell it. Cheap, toxic materials stink. The ideal 3D background

If the size isn't quite right, use a dermal or sander tool to trim the background for a perfect fit. A knife will do depending on the material, too.

Clean the glass before installing the 3D background inside the tank for better adhesion.

Check the water composition in the tank after installing the 3D background. The background shouldn't change the composition. If it does, remove the background.

Some backgrounds cause the water to cloud up more than normal. Whether this is a big deal is up to you.

Some 3D backgrounds are printed and are taped to the outside of the tank. If you see a low price on a background, you're probably looking at a printed version. This is especially helpful to keep in mind when ordering online.
